These creepy photos were shot with a film camera in Maurach, Austria in 1988. A camera positioned on a nearby table snapped two consecutive photos, one with a flash and one without. In the photo without the flash, an unidentified woman appears in the photo. Even stranger, she appears larger than the rest of the people in the photo, as if she was actually sitting much closer to the camera. Photography experts from the Royal Photographic Society examined the photo and ruled out the possibility of a double exposure.

Elizabeth Bathory was born in 1560 into one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Transylvania. She is known as the most infamous serial killer in Central Europe. Elizabeth Bathory is remembered as the “Blood Countess”. She was only 15 when she was ‘married off’ for political gain and position to a rough soldier of nevertheless aristocratic stock and manner. By reason of the marriage, she became the lady of the Castle of Csejthe, his home. While her husband was pursuing his passion for war, Elizabeth was often left to herself. It was also then she began to develop an interest in the occult. An old maid named Dorka Szentes instructed her in the ways of witchcraft and Black Magic. Later Dorka became Bathory’s helping hand and she encouraged Elizabeth’s sadistic tendencies, like the inflicting of pain upon people. Together with Dorka, Elizabeth began the task of disciplining the female servants, and torture them in an underground chamber. In 1600 her husband died in battle and thus began Elizabeth’s period of atrocities. By this time it is thought that she had dabbled into some forms of sorcery, attending rituals that included the sacrificing of horses and other animals. Elizabeth, now 40 years old, grew increasingly vain and she feared the thought of aging as she may lose her beauty. One day a servant girl accidentally pulled her hair while combing it. Elizabeth slapped the girl’s hand so hard she drew blood. The girls blood fell into Elizabeth’s hand and she immediately thought that her skin took on the freshness of her young maid. She believed that she had found the secret of eternal youth. Elizabeth ordered her male servant and helping hand to strip the maid and then cut her and drain her blood into a huge vat. Elizabeth bathed in it to beautify her entire body. Her henchmen continued to provided Elizabeth with new girls for the blood-draining ritual and her blood baths. Elizabeth went out of her way to see to it that the dead girls were given proper Christian burials by the local Protestant pastor, at least initially. As the body count rose, the pastor refused to perform his duties in this respect, because there were too many girls coming to him from Elizabeth who had died of “unknown and mysterious causes.” She then threatened him in order to keep him from spreading the news of her “hobby” and continued to have the bodies buried secretly. On December 30, 1610 authorities raided the castle and they were horrified by the terrible sights. One dead girl in the main room, drained of blood and another alive whose body had been pierced with holes. In the dungeon they discovered several living girls, some of whose bodies had been pierced several times. Below the castle, they exhumed the bodies of some 50 girls. In August 1614 she died in prison.

“In a tiny corner of western Poland a forest of about 400 pine trees grow with a 90 degree bend at the base of their trunks - all bent northward. Surrounded by a larger forest of straight growing pine trees this collection of curved trees, or “Crooked Forest,” is a mystery.”

The Winchester Mystery HouseThe Winchester Mansion is located in San Jose California.  Tours are given on a daily basis, and on Halloween and every Friday the 13th there are flashlight tours.  The Mansion has a very interesting history.Sarah Winchester was once a prominent member of the Boston elite society. After the deaths of her only child, a girl, and Sarah’s husband who was the son and heir of the man who produced the Winchester repeating rifles, Sarah thought the reason her child and husband had died was because the spirits of everyone killed by the Winchester rifle had taken them and placed a curse on the Winchesters.  The only way to appease the spirits was to build a mansion and keep building it forever. Thus began a 38 year quest by Sarah Winchester to not only appease the spirits but confuse them as well so they couldn’t find her.The wealthy Mrs. Winchester at the age of 44 travelled alone to San Jose California to build a mansion and kept the construction for the next 38 years until her death.  The house at one time rose 7 stories and contained a maze of rooms, hallways, staircases and doors.  She named her mystery house Llanda Villa.  It was a 160 room mansion although Sarah closed off the front 30 rooms .  She boarded them up after an earthquake in 1906.  She took the earthquake as a sign that the spirits were unhappy with the way the construction was going.  However estimates point to over 600 rooms built and demolished over a 38 year time frame. One feature of the Mansion was a bell tower, where the bell was rung every night at about midnight to summon the spirits.  Sarah would then ask the good spirits how they wanted the mansion constructed.  The bell would again ring out at 2 am. to signal the spirits that it was time to leave.  Sarah would emerge from the seance room with new plans for the construction workers.  She claimed the good spirits gave her the plans to help her confuse the bad spirits so they couldn’t get to her.   Many psychics have spent the night at the Winchester Mansion hoping to contact the spirits that reside there.  They were not disapointed.  Experiences include organ music being heard in the Blue Room where Sarah died.  In Sarah’s bedroom cold spots are felt and red balls of light are seen that seem to explode and fade.  Apparitions of a couple lingering in the corner of the bedroom clothed in servants garb dating to the early 20th century.  The sense of being watched is also felt in many parts of the house.During one seance a psychic appeared to age dramatically and take on the physical appearence of Sarah.  Although most people who have felt Sarah have said she is a kind and gentle spirit.A caretaker who worked at the house for several years said he heard breathing in one room, and once had followed the sound of footsteps to the doorway of Sarahs bedroom.  Both instances he was alone.  Another worker in the house claimed to have heard his name whispered.  While still others have sensed being watched, hearing footsteps, and perhapes the strangest of all, the smell of chicken soup coming from the front kitchen that had not been in use for several years. Apparitions of Sarh have been seen and photographed as well as a man in overalls.  Many episodes of lights turning off and on by themselves when the house is empty and locked up for the night.  Also a room in the house was flooded, every item in the room was soaked.  Upon further inspection of the room the floor, the ceiling and the walls were completely dry.Although Sarah Winchester lived her life in solitude and reclusive for the last 38 years of her life, it would seem she enjoys putting on a show for the workers and tour groups who visit her unique home now.

The Chase Crypt of BarbadosOften called the case of the moving coffins, the Chase family crypt in Barbados was the location of an unusual haunting.  During the years of 1812 to 1820, the six solid  lead coffins were found thrown around the sealed solid rock crypt after people  reported hearing strange sounds coming from the crypt.  Each time the crypt was  opened, the coffins put back to their original locations and sealed again. This case was investigated by Lord Comberemere, the Governor of Barbados at the time.  In July 1819 Lord Comberemere conducted a test.  The tomb was opened  and the locations of the coffins were sketched (picture above). The crypt was then sealed and an additional slab of marble that took 4 men to lift was put in the entrance.
In April of 1820, noise were again heard from the sealed crypt.  The  crypt was opened and the coffins were found moved about the inside of the crypt. After examining this, Lord Comberemere ordered all the coffins removed from the crypt and buried separately on the grounds of the cemetery of Christ Church.
